# What is Image Response testing

**Overview**

Image Response is a block type in Decode where participants respond to a question by capturing or uploading an image, instead of typing an answer or selecting from options.

**How it works**

You ask a question, and instead of writing an answer, participants respond with a photo, either captured on the spot or uploaded from their device. This is useful when the answer is naturally visual, something a participant can show more easily than describe.

For example, asking "please upload a screenshot that best represents your recent online shopping experience" gets you the actual screen someone interacted with, rather than their attempt to describe it in words.

**When to use it**

Use Image Response when:

- The answer is easier to show than explain, screenshots, physical products, packaging, or a real environment
- You want to see something specific a participant has access to, rather than take their word for it
- You're collecting supporting evidence alongside other responses in a study, rather than relying on typed or spoken feedback alone

**What to do next**

To build one, see [*Set up an Image Response block and view results*](https://help.getdecode.io/en/article/set-up-an-image-response-block-and-view-results).
